Primaore: A pretty little hamlet in the Appenine region of Emilia Romagna just over the Tuscan border. The population of Primaore is 250. The house itself overlooks the Parco del Gigante. It's location makes Primaore an ideal place for those who like to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life without feeling isolated. Twice a week the mobile shop comes into the hamlet selling most of the everyday necessities like bread, veg, fruit, milk etc. and the local shop is only a 20 minute stroll with a bar next door so after a steady walk, what better than to enjoy a cappuccino or a lager before you head back home?



Villa Minozzo: The area of Villa Minozzo spreads from the Secciah Valley to the 2121metre height of Mount Cusna, the highest peak of Tuscany's and Emilia's Appenines. Its history dates as far back as the 9th century. The landscape and its mountains makes the whole area a first class location for people who love active tourism. Only a 20min drive from Primaore, you will find banks, Post office, cafe bars, shops, two supermarkets and resaurants not to mention the Thursday market and open air swimming pool where, for about 6/7 euros you can spend the day. For a good meal out try Jolly, Tre Archi or La Poppia which is on the road leading out of Villa Minozzo. Spend a day at the poolside in Villa with views of Bismantova in the distance. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available as is food and drink all day.
Toano: Dates back to 907, before it became Matilde's property in the second half of the 11th century. Only a 40min drive from Primaore, it is worth the drive just for the beautiful scenery on the way. It too has an open air swimming pool and if you're looking for good food, the Miramonte is an excellent choice. Visit the Church of Matilde and walk back through the woodlands to the village where you can enjoy a glass or two of vino with your meal.
Minozzo: Visit the local Cheese making factory where you can buy fresh cheese, butter and ricotto.
Oasi Naturali: On the road from Ospitalleto and in Garfagnana, is this beautiful tranquil place, ideal for picnics and a leisurely stroll round the lake. Spot the dragonflies as they dart across the waters or feed the ducks. You might even catch a glimpse of the fresh water trout! The spring water is carried from the mountains along an aqueduct into the lake. There is also a camp site and lots of woodlands to explore before continuing your journey throughTuscany


Febbio: In the commune of Villa Minozzo, is the nearest ski resort and boasts the highest slopes in the Appenines with ski lifts taking skiers up to 2063m. There are 3 chair lifts and 3 cable lifts and has a capacity of 4,500 skiers per hour. In summer the ski lifts take you up the mountain so you can just admire the views. There is also a horse riding centre - La Sprella Ranch - offering riding for beginners at 5 euros or for the serious riders why not go trecking through the woodlands? Afterwards, why not enjoy a drink at Pepe's Bar and realax?
Ospitaletto: Is a pretty village just a few minutes past Ligonchio and one of the local ski resorts. In summer the houses are ablaze with vibrant coloured flowers along the window boxes and verandas.
Poiano: Visit Le Fonti Di Poiano and sample the water, famous for it's healing qualities. Take a stroll along the Secchia river.
